Finger Lakes Railway continues to work with local shippers to expand market reach and efficiently move goods into and out of the region. We moved over 15,000 carloads in 2009, and over 18.000 in 2008. In doing so, we create a lasting business relationship with each of our customers. We customize our services according to their logistic needs. These companies that have effectively utilized rail transportation are realizing the benefits every day.
Starting May 2010, we will feature one of our local customer / shippers here on our site. We will highlight their business and how they use rail to lower costs and expand markets. There is a long list of valued customers that we are proud to serve and a long list of their commodities that we are experts at handling.
In addition to freight haulling services, Finger Lakes Railway has 100s of rail cars parked on our lines for storage. The rail car storage service is an important part of our business. It provides a much needed outlet for the Class 1s railroads, like CSX and Norfolk Southern, as well as rail car companies, like GE, who need to keep inventory and circulation of rail cars in check during both busy and slow economic times. This additional business keeps our railroad positioned and knowledgeable of when the markets begin to change. When rail cars come out of storage, it means that business is back on "track."
Stay tuned for more updates and highlights of the customized services we provide to the community and to our loyal shippers on the Finger Lakes Railway.
